Chris Stamey, The Summer Sun and its playlist

Filed under: Music — Donny Kutzbach @ 1:12 pm

Stamey on bass with Alex Chilton

If you pick up this week’s issue you’ll find the Summer Themed Playlist that I threw together.

The picture/playlist link at the top right leads to Amazon.com, where Feist’s “Sea Lion Woman” is apparently not offered.

More significant - to my OCD, record collecting ass - is the fact that version of Chris Stamey’s “Summer Sun” is not the original. It’s a solid, latter era take with Yo La Tengo backing him up but definitely **NOT** the one I was writing about!

So, here’s the original version of “Summer Sun” that I was writing about in all its warm weather glory and ready for FREE download:

This version is criminally out of print. Now you can listen to it on repeat like I’ve been doing!

For more on Chris Stamey and his storied history as a qualified American powerpop genius and an in demand producer check out his website:

  1. Nice to use a photo of him playing bass for Alex Chilton… I think that new version of Summer Sun is kinda righteous, but the original is pretty untouchable… He played the Mohawk a few years ago (where were you?) and since we opened Bernie K made me pose for a picture with him and Chris. I was like an oak tree between 2 bushes. Needless to say, it’s a terrible photo….
