Um, what's wrong with his makeup? His appearance is stupid, but not his makeup. He looks like Charlie Sheen in Goth makeup. But with the right style, what's wrong with his makeup? I thought garish makeup was a very important aspect of Goth. Lots of white powder, tons of black (or other color) eyeliner with designs, black or red lipstick. I thought you were supposed to look freaky and bizarre and interesting...?? Goths that don't look like that are just a little on the Goth side, but not actually really Goth-looking. Who wants THAT when you can be extreme and shocking? Fashion and makeup, whether you like it are not, are a major part of being Goth, and gothic-types are always criticizing other Goths. I really don't get it. Act like an adult and wear things as over-the-top as you want. This is YOUR life, and I ALWAYS dress bizarre and over-the-top. People are so petty. I thought with Goths, Halloween was every day so it becomes an irrelevant holiday. And that's not KISS makeup!! KISS isn't Goth at all! Yecchhh!

I think Donny was just being funny with the picture and that's it. I'm almost certain that he used to frequent the cont and has even put up some of his own money to get bauhaus here in buffalo. A concert that lost money for him so let's not be so hard on him because he was just poking fun at the scene from an outsiders point of view but many took it as a shot on the scene itself. I think we all need to lighten up.

Don't be ignorant to others ways of enjoying a fine friday evening. Not to mention how childish and 'high school' like your judging is. Maybe yous hould stop by some time and see those who are there instead of sitting in alone by yourself on a friday night. Now that you have completely made a fool of yourself and saved everyone the trouble. Judge yourself next and continue to live in your state of ignorance.

Thank Goodness for people who keep the Club Scene ALIVE in all its forms for Buffalo, NY.
I think you should put your Dancing Shoes where your mouth is - come out and feel the beat. SHUT UP and Dance!

What is missing from your blog is an Actually Event Photo. You know what I mean, like where you go to an event and take a picture of what people actually look like there instead of using a nasty joke photo. Maybe you could have gone last Friday and photographed a band that played there. Perhaps you could have gotten a photo from Technoir's Myspace page or a local photographer. It would have be more truthful and more considerate. The problem with blogs is that they allow people to believe that they are good writers with a point of view that is worthy of being expressed and this is a fallacy . Good writers write about what they know not what they presume.

If Amy and Meagan hadn't stepped in to start up TechNoir once The Cont closed and Jesse stopped having regular synth/industrial/goth nights at Club Diablo, then that probably would have been the death knell in this region for a scene already weakened by a number of things, much of it due to the poor economy and the continuing migration out of Western NY, and the ill-advised smoking ban. I'm not a smoker, and find the habit distasteful, but I've seen what the ban has done to some places in this area, including The Cont. Besides, clove smoke provides a certain ambiance indicative of this subculture. :)

Finally, couldn't you have come up with a better picture than that? Very, very few people around here have attempted anything so garish on any day except Halloween (or whenever The Cont or Diablo have had their Halloween parties).

I have supported many of the Buffalo scenes, goth, indie, rave, rockabilly etc in my short 27 years. I am the other half of the promotion team for TechNoir and I am an avid supporter of Mohawk in all it's forms.

What is it to you to judge a once a month event that takes place at Mohawk? Why aren't you judging Transmission or the other dance parties that take place at Soundlab.? Honestly TechNoir has close ties with Bill and Jay from Transmission (who are probably more into goth music than you would think....but then again they are not wearing make-up so they possibly can't like that sorta music! =P)
In other words, we support each other because we care for the scene as a whole and want to preserve the Mohawk for what it is.....a great place to hear/see GREAT music!!!!

BTW The Cure is NOT a goth band....if you want to get technical.

Actually it is a goth/industrial night. Since your broad spectrum of music only covers the "Hipster" set. You should probably crack a window and see the outside for once. There is more to life than your narrow Zima sipping view. Maybe you should try out new music for once and not sit there in judgment for fear that your peers might look down on you for liking something different or that it may not fit into you elitist lifestyle. I am a rivet head and I knew there was a reason I don't bother looking at Artvoice's music section and you are it.

Donny... maybe you were trying to be funny, and if it was just the makeup photo and a good review about the night I would have laughed. But when I saw this I was just pissed off, because I enjoy and respect Artvoice, and I am proud of my friends for putting all the effort they have into Technoir to have a goth night in Buffalo when other than it there is nothing anymore, and I would like to see them be given some respect by a paper I respect. To me this post read.... blogging about music i like, more music i like, music i like, okay now let's mock the goths
