Continental @ The Tralf

Friday, Aug 9

12c70596-fdab-483b-ef37-b7a7c9fef8c2Quincy, Massachusetts is the birthplace of two American presidents, John Cheever, and, most importantly, Dunkin Donuts. The blue-collar town, known as “Granite City” for its large quarry, is also home to guitarist Rick Barton and the rest of the Dropkick Murphys. Barton hasn’t played with the Dropkick Murphys since 2000, but his newest venture, Continental, has a similarly “Quincy” feel. His music emanates the same energy and hard-rocking “everyman” sound as his old band, but adds a pinch of folk and country to supplement honest lyrics about love and loss. Barton’s son, Stephen, plays bass in Continental, joining guitarist Dave DePrest and drummer Derek Louis. They play at the Tralf Music Hall on Friday (August 9) at 7 pm. —leif reigstad
