716 Hip Hop: Cove, Supreme General, Koolie High

Cove – Love.Lost/Love.Gained

Cove Blackbelt of the Essential Vitamins Crew put out a more than solid release in Love.Lost/Love.Gained. As Cove puts it, the record is 15 tracks of ” lovey dovey, rough around the edges, break up to make up collection of hip hop inspired instrumentals.” Love.Lost/Love.Gained has a real Madlib vibe to it with jazzy bits that float in and out of crackling vinyl ether. This is a good one to throw on for those of you posting up on a Saturday night with some smoke in the air.

Supreme General – “Crash”

This is a really agressive track from the Supreme General, but then again that is par for the course for this Buffalo rapper. His rapping on “Crash” is ferosious but the beat keeps it down to earth, resulting in a well balanced track. Check it out and get ready for his set tonight at Soundlab as part of AfterDark’s monthly Lift Off hip hop series. #Salute.

Koolie High – “Keep on Prod”

Koolie High prove there is a lot of variety in the Buffalo hip hop scene. Where Cove is old school, Koolie High is full of bass. Where the Supereme General is agressive, Koolie High is laid back. Loving the female vocals on this track, it’s definitely worth checking out. Don’t miss Koolie High at Duke’s on Saturday with Coolzey and Rasshan Ahmad as Deep Thinka Records presents Tour De Force.
