Yuck is a four-piece indie rock band from London in the guise of an American alternative rock band from the 1990s. Which alt-rock giant they are disguised as is still up for debate: It could be Sonic Youth, or Dinosaur Jr. or even Pavement. Distorted vocal tracks, crunchy guitars, and hooky vocals are the borrowed weapons in Yuck’s arsenal of sound, but all comparisons aside, Yuck has some catchy tunes. For instance, take the feedback fueled, shoegazing anthems “Operation,” complete with play-along guitar riffs, and the indie-pop sing-along “Rubber,” from their self-titled debut album. These fuzzed-out, guitar-driven songs are almost meticulously influenced by those aforementioned kings of 1990s alt-grunge, but Yuck gives this genre a refreshing reboot for the new millennium. Catch these up and coming English rockers up close and personal (for a mere eight bucks!) when they perform at Babeville’s Ninth Ward on Tuesday (Sept 27). Brookyln solo electronic act Porcelain Raft opens the show. —cory perla
