Then read former President George W. Bush’s address on stem cell research, delivered from his Crawford ranch on August 9, 2001, one month before 9/11. It’s worth it just to see him invoking Aldous Huxley’s (1932) vision of test-tube humans grown in “hatcheries.”
Remember, these are the kinds of deep philosophical questions the Decider was pondering in the immediate buildup to the Al-Qaida attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon—which apparently blindsided his administration.
