No, this photo wasn’t taken 30 years ago. It’s a City of Tonawanda driveway, circa 2012, and this pair of 1975 Chevy Novas are still (it would appear) on the road. The one of the left, if you’re not up on your Nova lore, is the coveted Nova LN (the “L” I assume stands for luxury; the “N” — for what, “Nova?” Nova Luxury Nova? What were they thinking?). The brochure (which you can read for yourself here) points out one of my favorite Nova Luxury Nova luxurious features: “…a distinctive smoked lens over the instrument cluster.” Well, nothing says “luxury” like smoked plastic. The car on the right is the base Nova (or, as I would call it, the “Nova ULN,” or, “Nova Unluxurious Nova”). I guess this family just couldn’t come up with the extra $500 twice for two LNs, so someone in the family has to stare at their speedometer through an unsmoked lens. Life is tough.
