You’ve gotta love the brochure copy for this 1947 Chrysler New Yorker Club Coupe: “Perhaps you, too, have noticed how many Chrysler cars you see with a woman at the wheel — serenely confidant — justifiably proud — enjoying every minute of it.” What they were getting at was the availability of Fluid Drive, Chrysler’s 1947 version of an automatic transmission. I would imagine though, that most of those women possessed the arms of Rosie the Riveter. Imagine trying to steer this battleship through traffic. Or better yet, parallel park it. And you wouldn’t believe how far back I had to stand to get the entire car into that side view photo at the bottom. Thatsalotta steel! In Tonawanda.
