Frank Cotroneo, 17, of Grand Island on Wednesday signed a letter of intent to attend Division 1 Villanova University on a soccer scholarship that equals 70 percent of a full grant-in-aid that consists of tuition and fees, room and board, and required textbooks on loan. Cotroneo, a defensive star in the U. S. Soccer Development Academy out of Rochester, played one year of varsity soccer at Grand Island High School before moving on to the academy. He is the son of Frank and Deidre Cotroneo and the signing took place at West Herr’s Ford Lincoln store on Millersport Highway in Amherst where Deidre works as a billing clerk.
This past Saturday, August 29, Squeaky Wheel celebrated it’s 30 year anniversary with their Peepshow event. The event featured art installations, live performances and more from 30 local and regional artists. Photographer Glen E. This past Thursday, July 8th saw the Mighty Mighty Bosstones take the stage, along with openers Street Dogs hailing from Boston, as well as local band Kickstart Rumble, earning their spot as winner of Canalside’s Ska/Punk battle of the bands. Photos by Milad Givili.
The 9th annual Artvoice Battle of Original Music (BOOM!) Grand Finale takes place tomorrow! In anticipation of tomorrow night’s show, we thought we’d share some clips from three of our prior winners. Catch these $5000-winning performances from Folkfaces, Randle and the Late Night Scandals, and The Tins.
Tomorrow’s show will feature Intent to Sell, Erica Wolfling, Luanjie, and Uncle Ben’s Remedy. It all takes place at The Tralf Music hall on Main St. downtown. The show starts at 8pm, it’s an 18+ event (w/ID), and is $7 at the door. Everyone through the door gets a vote – come on out for a night of local original music, hand picked over the course of six months by Artvoice readers, and have your say in who this year’s $5000 grand prize winner will be!
