Tomorrow kicks off one of the busiest weekends of the year for the Queen City Roller Girls league with the home league Nickel City Knockouts vs the Saucies bout on Friday night, the Jr. home teams the Cereal Killers and the Atomic Bettys finishing off their season at Riverworks on Saturday and the Lake Effect Furies travelling to Columbus on Saturday to take on the Ohio Roller Girls. This will mean back to back bouts for some skaters, and a very busy weekend for all of QCRG’s volunteers and NSO’s.

The KO’s head into Friday’s bout with an impressive 18 game win streak. They beat the Saucies by 55 earlier in the season and even though the playoff match ups are set, you can expect the KO’s to come out strong to protect this streak. The Saucies struggled in the 2nd half of their last game, almost losing to the Alley Kats, and they will look to get back to form. Both of these teams play with a lot of pride and you can expect a competitive bout. Doors open at 7:00, with the game starting at 7:30. General admission tickets are available at the door in addition to online. Kids tickets (12 and under) are $10 and available at the door only. You can get tickets at the link –

The Jr. home league teams finish off their season Saturday at 10am at Riverworks. Free to the public, the final home league game of the season for the Jr leagues are always a big event, especially for graduating skaters who are moving into QCRG. The Bettys and the Killers have had close bouts all year as well, so you can expect this final bout to be close.

Last but not least, the busy QCRG weekend will end on the road in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday as the 33rd ranked Lake Effect Furies will take on the 19th ranked Ohio Roller Girls. The Furies will be looking to rebound from their 10 point loss last weekend to Steel City, on the road, against the highest ranked team they have ever played. The bout will be a huge test for the Furies we are looking to continue their rise up the Division 1 rankings. Lots of Furies fans will be making the drive, hoping to cheer their team on to an upset. Ohio relies heavily on their top jammer the Smacktivist, and although the Brawl vs. Smacktivist battle will be amazing to watch, the game may come down to how the 2-4 jammers of each team play. If the Smacktivist and Brawl cancel each other out it will come down to the rest of each teams jammer rotation.

This will be a great weekend for roller derby in Buffalo and all of these games point to the strength of QCRG league – running a Jr. league, a competitive home league, and the 33rd highest ranked WFTDA team in the world. This weekend will be Xmas in April for derby fans.
