YAK Car Pic of the Day

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Passed this old Studebaker pickup in the front row of a used car lot off Rt. 17 in Apalachin on the way back from NYC last month. This body style went unchanged from 1949-53; a few slight restylings took place from ’54 through ’59, and the whole cab was redone in the Lark compact car’s style for 1960. A flat rear quarter-paneled bed appeared in 1961 to help compete against the Big Three’s Stylesides and such, but it wasn’t enough to dig the Stude truck out of the sales hole it had driven into. The last models were the ’64s, and truck production ended there when Studebaker closed it’s South Bend, Indiana plant and moved car production to Hamilton, Ontario Canada. And that, was that. Here’s a link to the 1950 truck line brochure.
