YAK Car Pic of the Day

muntz jet n jag the caddy

A week or two ago it was Jerry Lewis night on TCM, and one of the movies I recorded was 1953’s The Caddy, with Lewis and Dean Martin playing pro golfers-turned nightclub act. Hey, it could happen! One scene in the film shows Martin’s love interest, Donna Reed, driving her 1950 Jaguar XK-120 (left), being chased by her mother (played by Marjorie Gateson), who’s driving a 1953 Muntz Jet (right). Now there’s a car you don’t very often, either on the screen or the street. Earl “Madman” Muntz of car radio fame was the builder, and his company reportedly sold about 400 of them before folding their tent in 1954.
