Buffalo-based musical act and global think tank The Steam Donkeys (pictured below right) will be playing an at-home double-header this Saturday. At 4:30pm, the band will take the stage as part of the first annual Buffalo Brewers Festival at Canalside. Pine Fever, Big Leg Emma, the Tumbleweed Ramblers, and JJ Grey and MOFRO round out the bill. Of course, the headliners will be the over 30 New York State breweries that will be on hand offering their wares.
“It will take a little work, but we intend to drink one of each,” says Steam Donkeys front man and spokesperson Buck Quigley, “It is a Saturday afternoon, after all, and I was planning on drinking 30 beers anyway. But at this festival we can all get knuckle-dragging drunk together and pretend we’re canal men on a bender looking for prostitutes. It will be very historically accurate, and we’ll be supporting our local craft breweries.”
Then it’s over to the Sportsmen’s Tavern for a double-bill with beloved honky tonk he-man Rex Hobart (pictured below left). Hobart, a former Buffalo resident, built a loyal following here before heading off to Kansas City a decade ago. He’ll be backed by local ringers the Twang Gang. Hobart hits the stage at 8:30pm, followed by the Steam Donkeys at 10pm. And don’t worry kids, there will be beer there as well.
