When Chrysler downsized the big Dodge and Plymouth cars for 1962, they immediately had a sales crisis. Their “full-sized” cars were now smaller than those of Ford and GM, so naturally sales were down. The folks at Dodge came up with a quick solution: take a 1962 Chrysler, remove the entire front clip and replace it with one from the 1961 Dodge and, voila! — the Dodge 880 was born. Here’s a 1963 vintage convertible, with newly-revised grille and taillights, seen parked in Tonawanda a few weeks back. Check out the brochure photos below to see the parts that made the whole.
