YAK Car Pic of the Day

Almost missed seeing this 1989 VW Fox on Sunday while returning home from my visit to the Small Press Book Fair. It was parked on Niagara Street in Buffalo about a block from the Connecticut Street Armory, and just caught the corner of my eye as I passed it by. The VW Fox is in no way to be confused with the Audi Fox of the 1970s. Although similar in size, they were completely different cars, the Audi version (known as the Audi 80 in most of the rest of the world) being a much more upscale car, while this VW was pretty cheap transportation, having been based on the Brazilian VW Gol (too cheap to even add an “f” to the end of its name!). The VW Fox was initially available as a two- or four-door sedan, as well as a two-door starion wagon. I was interested in one back in the day, but couldn’t sit in the driver’s seat without my head rubbing against the headliner. These things were sold in the U.S. from 1987-93. And for the most part, aren’t seen (or missed) much today.
