YAK Car Pic of the Day

Yesterday we touched on the now-defunct My Name Is Earl tv show and its crappy cars. There’s currently a program on FX called The Americans, which is about the Cold War and a group of KGB agents who have infiltrated life in Washington, D.C.; and understandably, being set in the 1980s it has… more crappy cars (apparently the Soviets also had crappy wigs in their disguise bags, but that’s a story for another blog). The difference here is that you occasionally see a truly crappy car from behind the Iron Curtain — like the 1962 GAZ M-21 Volga L above (why do so many Soviet car names sound more like weapons?), which here is being unceremoniously sent to that great scrap heap in the sky. Double-agents, K-Mart disguises, crappy cars… and, oh yeah, John-Boy Walton as an FBI bigwig! — The Americans has it all!
