This 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 convertible is hibernating in plain sight, right here in Tonawanda. When I passed it by yesterday afternoon, the thermometer read 45° — not quite top-down weather by any means, but those tires don’t look like they’d be worth a darn in the snow, anyway. In previous years, the SS stood for Super Sport, which was spelled out on the rear fenders; the ’68s went for the shorter, “SS” name, perhaps to compete better with the Pontiac GTOs, Olds 442s, and Ford Torino GTs.
