YAK Car Pic of the Day

57 merc hemmings copy

Although this 1957 Mercury might have been no more than a fancied-up Ford, they sure were a little more wildly styled. I used to think these things were downright ugly, but a lower echelon model like this Monterey two-door sedan has a certain charm about it. Either that, or I’m getting old. This blue sedan was featured a while back in Hemmings Motor News. You can also click here and see the brochure.

Didn’t this car also appear in “Godfather II”? I vaguely remember seeing the front end of this car as the one that drove Michael Corleone and his bodyguard during the scenes in Cuba. Might be off by a year or two..

Right you are, George. Going back farther, it also served as one of Broderick Crawford’s rides in TV’s “Highway Patrol” in the 50’s if I’m not mistaken. I’m with Jim, it has the appearance of being the ’57 Ford’s gangly older brother but it kinda grows on you.
