YAK Car Pic of the Day

84 olds delta 88 royale yel nf copy

I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been noticing a lot of Oldsmobiles on the road. And it’s certainly not because there are more out there now; GM stopped producing the Olds after the 2004 model year. At any rate, here’s a huge 1984 Olds Delta 88 Royale (in a Niagara Falls lot). One thing for sure about these 1980s full-sized cars: they were smooth-riders. The brochure tells us the reasons: “Those full foam seats are just the ticket for tired bodies. So is the gentle action of the Pliacel shocks and the coil spring suspension.” Here I am, 29 years later, still not sure what a “Pliacel” shock is. Sure sounds comfortable, though.— Jim Corbran, You Auto Know
