YAK Car Pic of the Day

It was the year before the Summer of Love, and if you wanted something completely different in the new car department, you might have headed down to your Olds dealer and checked out the all-new 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. Correctly billed in the brochure as “the only full-size car with front wheel drive,” the big new Olds had journalists doing cartwheels. Finally, something other than the same-old same-old. The most expensive Olds in the showroom, nonetheless they managed to move over 40,000 of them out the door, at prices north of $4,600. Not too shabby. This black beauty was seen at the Labor Day Car Show at Tonawanda’s Niawanda Park. My only complaint? Get rid of the white-letter tires already! Sheesh!
