YAK Car Pic of the Day

.

.

Yesterday morning I think I discovered where Sheriff Andy Taylor lives… and it wasn’t Mayberry. His 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 police cruiser was parked in this Wheatfield driveway when I drove by. Keen observers will note that most police cars weren’t high-line models like the Galaxie 500, but were more likely members of the lower castes, such as the plainer Galaxie, or, even more likely, the bare-bones Custom 300. Perhaps this was never a police car, but is instead a replica?

I think the only thing that’s missing from Wheatfield’s version of Andy’s ride was that ever present whip antenna which was absolutely essential for law enforcement communication in the days of narrow bandwidth. I found a pic of another version of Sheriff Taylor’s car that has the antenna.
