YAK Car Pic of the Day

I’m trying to convince a friend he’d look good in this 1974 Jaguar XJ12L, which is currently for sale on Grand Island. Okay, so they weren’t particularly known for build quality. Or reliability. But for a fair-weather week-end driver, who’s gonna look better than you pulling up driving this thing? As long as you have AAA, I say go for it! The “L” in the model name refers to the longer wheelbase (by four inches) version, which by now was the only version being sold; while the “12” indicates Jaguar’s 5.3-liter V-12 engine. The shorter wheelbase was still being used for the soon-to-be-introduced coupe, which I don’t think has the panache of the sedan. C’mon Ryan — I’ve got the phone number!

Lovely machine and Jag’s last hurrah before succombing to a 40-some year indentity crisis, eventually being swallowed by FOMOCO. I understand they’re back on the block with the new F-type.

The best running specimens of the XJ series have Chevy or Ford small blocks in them.
