YAK Car Pic of the Day

.

.

Haven’t seen one of these in years: a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Esprit, this one parked in a Youngstown driveway. Pontiac described the Esprit as “Tomorrow’s kind of luxury sports car.” What made for luxury back in 1970? How about “…thin silvery strips of chrome along the roof edge.” “Outside mirrors… aerodynamically styled and endowed with a very broad point of view.” And “knit vinyl upholstery.” All good stuff, and very luxurious in a Tony Orlando and Dawn sort of way. The Esprit was positioned (at $3,241) between the base hardtop and the Formula 400 coupe, with the high-performance Trans Am rounding out the line.

Best body style the Firebirds / Camaros had during their run when you were going to turn it into a muscle car. One geezer’s opinion.
