YAK Car Pic of the Day

.

.

This Sunbeam Alpine Series V convertible was spotted in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express near the Niagara Falls Airport a few weeks ago. Fans of the 1960s television series Get Smart might think it looks familiar — and they wouldn’t be too far off. Agent 86’s (Maxwell Smart) car for most of the series was actually a Sunbeam Tiger. The Tiger was pretty much the same car as the Alpine, albeit with a Ford V-8 rather than the Rootes four-cylinder engine. Sunbeam Alpine (and Tiger) production ended after the 1968 model year, when the Rootes Group (which also produced Hillman, Humber, Singer, Talbot, Commer, and Larrier nameplates) was taken over by the Chrysler Corporation. The Series V Alpine was produced from 1965 through to the end in 1968.
