YAK Car Pic of the Day

If bigger is indeed better, this 1972 Ford Thunderbird was really, really good. How big was it? It shared a basic body shell with the Continental Mark IV — if you squint at one of each from a block away, the resemblance is remarkable. Ford’s advertising acknowledged the huge new ‘Bird with the catch-phrase “All New for ’72 and More Thunderbird Than Ever.” The standard engine was also on the large size: a 400 CID V-8, while the audio system… well, the brochure makes it sound like you have to pay extra for an “…AM radio, AM/FM StereoRadio, or a Stereosonic Tape System with AM radio.” Pretty slim pickins back in the old days. This green ‘Bird, complete with color-keyed wheel covers, was seen recently outside of a repair shop in Sanborn.
