YAK Car Pic of the Day

As many of you know, I spent part of last week in, and driving back from, Killeen, Texas where I was retrieving daughter Katie who has just finished her three-year hitch in the U.S. Army. And of course the YAK camera went along for the trip. And one of the last things I expected to see in town, tucked between the big-wheeled Crown Vics and the multi-rifle-racked, jacked-up F-150s, was this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Actually photographing it almost turned into a news event — or so I feared, as I heard a “What’re y’all doing back here?” from an angry-looking man in coveralls who came out to see what we all were doing. When I told him we were just taking pictures of cool old cars, his mouth broke into a big ol’ grin and he went back into the garage. And we stopped sneaking behind buildings. This particular model of the Rolls was in production from 1965-1980, and the rubber bits on the bumpers would indicate this one’s a late-1976 or newer. The improved Silver Shadow II replaced the Silver Shadow for MY 1977.
