YAK Car Pic of the Day

Today’s YAK.QuickTip is on car painting: things will go much quicker if you don’t worry about masking out the bumper and grille (although, you’ll definitely need to buy extra paint). Thus seems to be the case with this 1947 Chevy Fleetmaster Sport Sedan, seen at the beginning of winter just outside the Village of Barker. As you can see from the brochure photo below, they look much better with the chrome showing — and with real paint over that layer of dark gray primer. The U.S. auto industry was in the midst of the post-WWII sales boom, where anything on wheels flew out the showroom door, and 91,440 Fleetmaster Sport Sedans were sold, making it number two in Chevy sales behind the two-door Aerosedan (159,407). You could have bought an example of today’s Car Pic for $1,345 when it was new. If you simply must have a ’47 Chevy, there’s a two-door sedan on eBay with an asking price of just $38,500 — sale ends February 22 (see it here).
