YAK Car Pic of the Day – Buffalo Auto Show Edition

Sometimes life hands you lemons, and you can’t make anything with them. They’re just lemons. Like yesterday, when I headed downtown to the Buffalo Auto Show at the convention center. Took this photo — a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 — and then the camera crapped out. I had hoped to be featuring a bunch of photos here from the show; instead you’re stuck with my version of what to see when/if you go (it runs through Sunday). Keep in mind that these aren’t photos of the actual show cars, for obvious reasons.
One of my favorites was an Aqua Blue Metallic Porsche Carerra S; the color was stunning, and … well, it’s a Porsche 911 fer cripes’ sake!
The new Ford C-Max also impresses. It’s built on the Focus platform, but is a more of a hybrid compact SUV. Squint and it looks very similar to the new Escape, but I like the C-Max better on closer inspection.
Chevy’s new 2014 Impala makes an appearance at the show, but it’s tucked w-a-y back in the corner upstairs in the Chevy display. It’s a pretty sharp-looking car and worth a look if you’ll be in the market for a full-sized sedan in the upcoming months. If you think you’ve seen them on the road, dressed up as police cruisers, those are actually rear-wheel-drive Chevy Caprices, based on the now-defunct Pontiac G8.
Lincoln is showing the MKZ concept car, which Lincoln fans can only hope is something really close to what will be the next actual MKZ. I’ve gotta say here, that the male model on the Ford platform needs to prepare better. During his speil he gave a shout-out to the Lincoln display, which, he said, “…has only three cars… no wait, four… oh, there’s a fifth one over there.” Way to prepare, guy.
The new Mazda6 should make Accord, Altima, and Camry buyers take another look at the Hiroshima-based manufacturer. It’s sleek, well-proportioned, and well-priced.
Too bad we’re not also getting the wagon version of the 6 that much of the rest of the world will see.
Now mind you, this isn’t everything. But if you go, see these cars. And also the Tangerine Scream-colored Ford Focus, the Habanero-colored Toyota Prius c, and the Techno Pink Chevy Spark — all very cool colors.
