YAK Car Pick of the Day

You know, people (like me) go on about how much bigger the second generation Mustang was compared to the first. Well, I guess it looked a lot bigger than it was. Checking out this 1968 Ford Mustang last summer in Tonawanda I was thinking “God, these things were huge.” Well, today I finally looked it up. The ’67s & ’68s were a whole two inches longer than the ’65, a little over two-and-a-half inches wider, and about 50 pounds heavier. It could have been worse, I guess. Like, they could have been the 2013 model, which is even longer, wider, and a lot heavier than this ’68. Oh, and about ten times the cost. Yikes! You can view a 1968 Mustang brochure here.

This one’s a lean machine compared to later Mustangs which bore the influence of Buffalo’s own Semon “Bunkie” Knudsen, who during his tenure @ FOMOCO really bloated out the Pony and the T-Bird, too which made them resemble GM’s cars of the period.
