YAK Car Pic of the Day

That wheezing you hear in the background is American Motors running out of air. This 1980 AMC Concord Sportabout, although a great (and great-looking) little car, didn’t help much. Up until 1977 the AMC compact went by the Hornet moniker. An upgrade to a fancier interior and an exterior refresh brought about the new Concord name in 1978 and sales soared. But, with little cash for further updates, the Concord eventually petered out after the 1983 model year. What was left was a bunch of jacked-up four-wheel-drive Eagles (same basic car with yet another new name) which lasted until AMC punched the time clock for the last time at the end of MY 1987. This green example is from the archives, photographed in South Wales a few years back. You can view the 1980 AMC lineup here.

Ritzy Concord Limited sedan

I worked for a small printing company back on the early 80’s that had a Concord sedan as a delivery vehicle. Not the best car for hauling cases of paper. However, that car took a beating from us and kept running. It had the same straight six motor you would get in a CJ. Lots of power.
