YAK Car Pic of the Day

Years ago I had an article in the Buffalo News Sunday magazine (remember that?) called “The Car As the Co-Star” about cars featured on various television shows. Sometimes it wasn’t just one car (like say, the Batmobile; or the Pontiac convertible that the Ricardos and Mertzes drove from New York to California on I Love Lucy); often it was a line of cars — a.k.a., the sponsors’ cars. Chevrolet on Bewitched; Ford on The FBI; Chrysler on The Beverly Hillbillies.
And then there’s today feature: Ford on the NBC sitcom Hazel, which starred Shirley Booth as a maid and ran from 1961-66. This 1962 Ford Country Squire was one in a long line of wood-paneled station wagons used by family matriarch Mrs. Baxter to ferry the family around in. I especially like the caption which accompanied this photo on the IMCDB page (Internet Movies Car Data Base): “The Baxter family car. Naturally since it’s the sponsor’s car, it’s shown off like a naked girl in a porn film.” Hah! You got that right!
