Fear not… the hockey fix is coming

NHL players are locked out. The first of the refund checks for non played games are being sent out to Buffalo Sabres season ticket holders and mini pack holders. If you’re a hockey fan, the landscape looks pretty dreary and depressing right about now, as there is no end in sight to the labor strife going on, and memories of 2004-05, when an entire season of NHL action was lost due to a work stoppage, seems more and more probable.

But Sabres fans here can take solace that there will be things to see and do at the First Niagara Center, and the action all starts this weekend:

CCM/USA Hockey All American Prospects Game, Saturday, September 29, 7PM
Buffalo will be host to the first ever prospects game, featuring 40 of the elite American hockey players, who will be eligible for next year’s NHL drag as well as to make the squad for the next Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Former Buffalo Sabres players Phil Housley and Rob McClanahan will serve as coaches for the competing squads in the event. HERE is the roster of the players who will appear and participate.

Rochester Americans Training Camp, Friday, September 28. Sessions from 11:45AM-1:00PM and 1:15PM-2:30PM
Players Luke Adam, Cody Hodgson and Marcus Foligno are just a few of the recognizable names that will take to the ice as the Sabres AHL farm team opens training camp at the First Niagara Center. The public is invited to attend and watch the Sabres of the future as they gear up for the regular season.

Rochester Americans v Hamilton Bulldogs, Tuesday, October 23, 7:30PM
Last time there was a lockout, the Sabres top farm team, the Rochester Americans, staged a number of regular season games at the downtown arena, and the games were played to huge crowds. This one should be no exception, as the AHL will return to Buffalo.
