YAK Car Pic of the Day

’71 Jeep Cowboy concept

Was browsing through my copy of Standard Catalog of Jeep, 1940-2003 the other day, and came across this interesting concept car. It’s from 1971, which was a year after American Motors had purchased the Kaiser-Jeep Corporation. This small pickup, the Jeep Cowboy, was a Ford Ranchero/Chevy El Camino-type vehicle based on the AMC Gremlin (the author claims it’s based on the Hornet, but from that front grille I’m going with Gremlin— maybe it was both). Although I certainly wouldn’t have ever needed one, I think that if it had been built, I might have looked into buying one back in the day. The book, by Patrick Foster, is a must-read for any Jeep fan. Foster has also penned a number of AMC-related books.

Still in the designing stage. FAIL!
