YAK Car(s) Pic of the Day

’72 and ’70 Chevy Monte Carlos, Sanborn, N.Y.

Another local driveway with two oldies-but-goodies. This time just outside the Village of Sanborn, I came across these two Chevy Monte Carlos: a gold 1970 and a green 1972. These were the cars that brought the personal luxury genre home to many buyers. Ford’s Thunderbird occupied that niche for years pretty much by itself, but when Pontiac introduced the 1969 Grand Prix it was a whole new ballgame. Chrysler Cordobas, bigger Mercury Cougars, Dodge Magnums — everybody wanted to get into the act. The Monte Carlo remained in production (with a short hiatus from 1989-1994) until the 2007 model year.
