YAK Car Pic of the Day

’63 Mercury Monterey, Niagara Falls USA

This is probably the oddest angle one could photograph a 1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway from, even though they were odd at any angle. The Breezeway’s reverse slanted rear window actually retracted down for real flow-thru ventilation, an idea that never really caught on. I suppose its looks were its own worst enemy, and that’s too bad because it seems like a neat idea. The God-awful Lincolns of 1958-60 also had this feature, and it too died a quiet death. Mid-model year brought the introduction of the “regular-roofed” Marauder, which not only looked better, but was a boon to Ford’s NASCAR program. Today’s YAK Pic was photographed recently in a Niagara Falls parking lot.

’63 Marauder… now that’s better!
