YAK Car (Moving) Pic(ture) of the Day

The Kearns family on a rainy, intermittent wiper-motor test drive in their ’66 Ford Galaxie 500

Last night The Missus and I watched the 2008 movie Flash of Genius, which stars Greg Kinnear as Dr. Robert Kearns, the inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper. As The Missus commented at the end of the movie, “Whoever thought I’d be watching a movie about windshield wipers?” “Whoever thought they’d make one?” I replied. But there it was. As stories go, it’s an interesting one: Dr. Kearns invents the intermittent wiper in his basement; soon after it mysteriously shows up on new Ford cars; he sues. And then there’s the conclusion which I won’t give away. Whether you’re an intermittent windshield wiper fan or not, there are worse ways to spend two hours. Take that as an endorsement.
