YAK Car Pic of the Day

There was a time when this German manufacturer was known for its line of nicely-put together compact sedans. Then, in 1968 they took one of their plain (but still very nice) two-door sedans and dropped a high-performance engine into it. And the compact sporting sedan was born, changing forever the image of its builder. By the time this 1972 BMW 2002 (above) was produced, the buying public pretty much forgot about the more laid-back 1500s and 1600s which preceded it — and BMW hasn’t looked back since. Regular readers have probably figured out that this maroon 2002 was at the Hemming’s Sports & Exotic Car Show last weekend in Saratoga Springs.
