YAK Car Pic of the Day

’64 Chevy Corvair 700, North Tonawanda, N.Y.

This beskirted, For Sale first generation 1964 Chevrolet Corvair 700 can be seen in a front yard on Niagara Falls Boulevard in North Tonawanda. The 700 was the middle series in 1964; the turbocharged Monza Spyder and regular Monza being at the top and the 500 at the bottom. I love the four-door sedan’s roofline, with nary a blind spot in sight (so to speak). These were the cars that Ralph Nader railed against as being unsafe. And even though for 1965 Chevy totally redesigned the car, doing away with all of the nasty bits which Nader harped about, it was doomed to be a sales failure. And, it was, disappearing after the 1969 model year, when fewer than 5,500 were produced.
