YAK Car Pic of the Day

’57 Plymouth Belvedere, North Tonawanda, N.Y.

Lately I’ve been running across a lot of old Plymouths (there’s no other kind!), like this 1957 Belvedere sedan which is sitting in a North Tonawanda driveway. The Belvedere line was second only to Plymouth’s Fury, which was a one-model-only high-performance two-door hardtop. The Savoy and the base Plaza rounded out the line, along with four Suburban station wagons. Styling for the ’57s was so futuristic (for the time) that the ads screamed “Suddenly it’s 1960!” They still look pretty slick compared to the competition, but in the rush to production the quality control was given a vacation. And then to make things worse, many of them quickly disintegrated into a pile of rust. But not this one.
