Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 10-August 2. Tuesday and Thursday Night at the Movies. 6:30pm-9:30pm. 232 Center for the Arts, UB North Campus. (http://www.cas.buffalo.edu/summer/workshops.php#Movies) $15 per movie, $48 for four.
Already tired of the summer slew of superhero sequels and by-the-numbers romcoms? Then head over to UB’s Center for the Arts on weeknights this summer to see some real film as part of UB’s annual Night at the Movies workshop series. Tuesday evenings will be devoted to classic sci-fi films (presumably to placate those who are still disappointed with Prometheus), and will feature the likes of The Day the Earth Stood Still and Fritz Lang’s classic Metropolis. Thursdays will feature decidedly more comedic fare, including classics of the genre like What’s Up Doc? and The Glass Bottom Boat. Each screening is followed by a discussion session led by members of UB’s faculty, ensuring film class-quality discussion for a fraction of the cost of college tuition. So: Would you rather dump $10 to see Ted or Madagascar 3, or spend $15 to see a classic with some fun film factoids? -edward a. benoit
