YAK Car Pic of the Day – From the Great Race

Another rarity checking in at the Hemmings Motor News 2012 Great Race on Thursday evening in downtown Buffalo was this 1957 Rambler Custom Cross Country station wagon. C’mon now, when was the last time (if ever) that you saw one of these on the road? Lucky for the Riechmann & Kammholz team from Portland, Oregon who drove/navigated this old AMC, according to a badge on the door it was air-conditioned. That’s wasn’t very common in 1957 except for the high-end cars. Now for some reason — and you’d think they’d know better — the Great Race program lists this car as a Nash. As we YAK fans know, the only 1957 Nashes were Ambassadors and Metropolitans, the rest were Ramblers — by order of new AMC head George Romney (yes, one of those Romneys). You can see all of the 1957 Ramblers here.
