Buffalo Niagara International Poetry Slam

You always hear, “the pen is mightier than the sword” – the Buffalo Niagara International Poetry Slam actualizes that exhausted phrase.
On Saturday (June 16) poetry veterans and novices will have the opportunity to duke it out (using their words, of course) in timed segments of original work. Poets from New York City, Toronto, Rochester, Syracuse, and other locations will be competing for $600 in cash prizes at the area’s largest poetry slam. Audience members will be enthralled as they watch the battle of wits and words, and serve as the competition’s judges.
Slam poetry culture first came out of Chicago in the 1980’s and the same kind of underground poetry culture developed in Buffalo by the mid ‘90s. Host and founder of the event, Ntare Ali Gault, hopes to expand the slam culture in Western New York and beyond – this will be competition’s second year running. So come out the Tralf and enjoy this battle of the prose. -sara dinatale
