Bike Month Rolls On

May is national bike month, and the weather is perfect for taking a spin. Bicycling advocate Cynthia Van Ness sends us this link about bike safety and education in—where else—the Netherlands. Imagine how much safer American streets would be if everyone learned traffic rules at an early age and treated one another compassionately while going from place to place. Drivers, riders, and walkers equitably sharing the road. Incomprehensible, right?
We’re in the midst of Bike to Work week, and Friday is Bike to Work day. Go Bike Buffalo is announcing a bicycle breakfast that day (5/18) at Cafe Taza (Elmwood & Allen) from 7am-10am; rounded out by a Bike Away From Work Happy Hour from 5pm-8pm across the street at Cantina Loco. The Go Bike launch party is Saturday (5/19) at Essex Street Art Complex, 7pm.
If you’re on the fence about riding your bike to work, try taking the plunge sometime this week. Plan your route, give yourself enough time, and see how pleasant it is to start your day with a nice bike ride. It feels like recreation—and yet, it’s part of your daily grind. Sinful.
Odds are, your biggest regret will be that you didn’t start doing it sooner. Click here for a bunch of tips on commuting by bike.
Enjoy your ride, comrades. The future is ours.
