Wheels In the Grass

'61 Dodge Dart Phoenix, Wheatfield, N.Y.

This 1961 Dodge Dart Phoenix sedan is from the Chrysler styling era where stylists were getting paid to style, and, dammit, they were gonna do some stylin’! I don’t think there’s a straight line on this car. The upper-class Polaras were even weirder, with taillights in the sides of the rear fenders, so from certain angles you could only see one light. This green example was seen in a Wheatfield driveway, and when new sold for $3,350 (or $3,535 with a V-8); over 38,000 of the Phoenix model were sold that year.
