YAK Car Pic of the Day

If you’d seen this car in 1974 or 1975, if would have been an Imperial. But for the next three years, which included this 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham (spotted recently in a Niagara Falls USA parking lot), it was basically the same car without the Imperial nameplate. That name reappeared in 1981 as a spiffy two-door coupe which was basically a radically redesigned mid-sized Cordoba. I guess you could call these years the “we forgot how to market our luxury brand” years for Chrysler. Besides these Broughams and tarted-up Cordobas, we saw Fifth Avenues and, yes, Imperials, built on the compact K-Car platform. Chairman Lee Iacocca was famous for his commercials in which he said “…if you can find a better car, buy it!” Many did.
