YAK Car Pic of the Day

'77 Buick Riviera, Niagara Falls, N.Y.

On the same day I spotted this black-on-black 1977 Buick Riviera in a Niagara Falls driveway, don’t I drive another mile or so into downtown, and park right behind another black-on-black Riv on Third Street, this one a ’78? Uncanny. I’ve got to admit these weren’t my favorite years for Buick’s personal luxury barge — those first ’63s-to’65s were really something else. Of course, once the 70s rolled around (and most of the 80s, come to think of it), much, if not most, of GM’s lineup of large cars was nothing to write home about. It’s amazing anybody saved anything from those years.

  • I’m a fan of the 66-69 models, and the ’71-’73 boat tail version was pretty slick too. I have seen a couple of those around town.

The 72 boat tail was quite the ride. I’d like ne in maroon with a white interior and fuzzy dice and a hoola shimy doll.
