YAK Car Pic of the Day

Jaguar "hearse" — "Harold and Maude," 1971

I watched the 1971 movie Harold and Maude again the other night. I had completely forgotten about Harold’s 1971 Jaguar XK-E — his mother presented him with it to replace the maudlin ’59 Caddy hearse he’d been driving around (which Mom had towed away). In the next scene we see Harold approaching the Jag with a welding torch, and when we see the car again it’s the one in the photo above. Odds are the new ’71 isn’t the one that producers had modified for this hearse-like conversion. Most likely it was an older car (especially taking into consideration its eventual fate in the movie).
