YAK Car Pic of the Day

a 1953 truckload o'Studes

Thanks to old buddy Dave Brown for the PowerPoint file containing a bunch of these old transporter photos. This one is a late ’40s-to-early ’50s Studebaker semi, carrying a trailerload of 1953 Studebakers from the factory in South Bend, Indiana. None of the cars are the now-coveted Starliner hardtops. Studebaker miscalculated its popularity (or rather, miscalculated how much of a dud the sedan body style would be sales-wise) and had an overload of station wagons and sedans sitting on lots, and a shortage of the award-winning hardtop Starliners. Oh to have one now.
