YAK Car Pic of the Day

'56 Mercury XM-Turnpike Cruiser concept car

The 2012 Buffalo Auto Show has passed, and I guess we didn’t rate any new, exciting concept cars this year. This 1956 Mercury XM-Turnpike Cruiser, besides having one of the longest car names of the year, wasn’t just some wild idea car that made the rounds of car shows. It was a predictor of the newly-restyled 1957 Mercury. Although greatly exaggerated, you can see a lot of the ’57 in this idea car. And back then, auto manufacturers went to great lengths to promote these cars — you can see the XM-Turnpike Cruiser’s brochure here.

I like the felame model in the ’56 concept car. With those LONG black glooves, she resembles a “stripper”. Maybe part of the cars appeal?
