YAK Car Pic of the Day

'75 Ford Econoline 150, Hamburg, N.Y.

…from the “My Old Vehicles” collection here’s my 1975 Ford Econoline 150 van. When I bought it new it didn’t even have a passenger’s seat, so I special-ordered one and until it came in I had a living room chair in its place. Comfy, but not too practical (especially when stopping, going, or turning). A pretty basic van with a 351 cid V-8 and three-on-the-tree, I bought it during my “I like camping but not sleeping on the hard, damp ground” phase. Three different interior remodeling jobs helped hone my miniscule carpentry skills. In its final, wood-paneled-and-carpeted-walls decor I traded it in on a new Mercury Bobcat during one of the gas price hikes of the late 1970s, and got just what I paid for it three years earlier. Not too shabby.

Holy parallels Jim Corban! At that same time I bought a used but very serviceable Volkswagon Camper Van. And…when that wore out (or off) I too bought a Mercury Bobcat. Never liked the Bobcat like I liked the Volkswagon Camper. Wonder how they ever sold those Bobcats? One drab car!

  • Great pic! Brochure quality.
